Access being denied to listings on the site

A number of users have complained over the last few days that they cannot view listings because they are being blocked.

I have tried to reproduce the problem at my end using Firefox, IE8, Safari and Chrome and haven't managed it, which is good rather than bad news as this would suggest that it is a browser issue rather than a site issue.

There are a couple of things you could try:

1. Try a different browser and see if you are getting the problem still. If not then it confirms it is a browser issue which we need to sort out, but at least until we do you have access to the listings:

2. Try logging out and view the listings.  If this works, try logging in and view the listings.

3. Press CTRL and F5 at the same time, this refreshes the screen AND clears your browsing cache (any images and text downloaded are stored on your PC for quicker retrieval if you wish to view the same page again normally).

If this doesn't sort the issue for you, please post the following onto this thread:

1.  The browsers you have tried including the version (the version is important)
2.  Whether it occurs when logged in or out or both.
3.  How you are trying to view the listings, eg. via the marketplace tab at the top then selecting your category, through a search or through the menu options in the left hand side marketplace menu.
4.  The error message you are receiving.

The above may be a pain, but it will help us to fix the problem.

Many thanks

Norman

Re: Access being denied to listings on the site

I am still having problems!
We use AOL 9.0VR & I have also tried through Internet Explorer.
Neither are working when logged in or out.
I have accessed via the Marketplace tab at the top & down the left hand side.
Via Internet Explorer it states that 'Internet Explorer cannot access the website www.equestrianmarketplace.com' & via AOL I just keep being returned to the 'News Announcment' page with the message that 'You are not authorised to view this page'.

Hope that helps.

Re: Access being denied to listings on the site

Thanks Karen

I am looking into the errors.

Can I persuade you to try Firefox downloadable from here: http://www.mozilla-europe.org/en/firefox/

just to see if you get the same problem?

It is the fastest and bestest (not a real word but I like it) browser out there, would be interesting to see if it works, and you can uninstall it after if you don't like it.

If you would rather not then please bear with me. cool

Re: Access being denied to listings on the site

At the moment I cannot replicate this problem an any PC I have access (6 onsite and several friends I have asked to try it on various operating systems and browsers).  I can only conclude that the issue is a local one, ie. on your PC.

The only other suggestion I can make (other than to reformat your PC which is a little drastic) is for you to delete all of your internet cookies and temporary internet files and try again.  Ofcourse if you delete all cookies then you will lose any saved passwords for other sites and settings for other sites such as default locations (for weather sites for instance) or languages for multi-language sites.

The cookie for this website is yourusername@www.equestrianmarketplace[1].txt so you could search for that and delete it first, but tbh it only stores your login so is unlikely to make a difference.

If you want to try the "delete all cookies and internet temp files route" take a look at this link:

http://www.pchell.com/support/privacy.shtml

All I would say is, I cannot guarantee it will work, and you may want to start by deleting temp files only, then try cookies etc.

One other thing you might try, is registering on the site again with another email address and username to see what happens, you just never know with computers...

I am sorry I cannot put my finger on the exact problem.

Re: Access being denied to listings on the site

I think it is all sorted!

I uninstalled the component that manages the listings.  I then reinstalled it, restored the database etc. and voila, it seems to be ok now.

Please let me know if that isn't the case.cool
